Saturday, November 17, 2007 - Mike MacNeil and Gerald Beaton

Mike MacNeil Gerald Beaton

Mike MacNeil

Mike studied jazz theory and arranging with jazz guitarist Lloyd Garber from 1968 to 1970. He graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor in Music in 1980. He has been active as a teacher and performer for over 30 years in and around Halifax and while he has worked in many musical genres, jazz has always been his preferred form of musical expression. He counts jazz legends Django Reinhardt and Joe Pass as having the most influence on his playing style.

Gerald Beaton

Gerald studied at Western Washington University under the tutelage of Chuck Isreals. Since his return to Halifax he has been busy teaching and performing. His main jazz guitar influences are Charlie Christian and T-Bone Walker.

Together these two create an atmosphere of easy listening backed by solid playing and love of the instrument. You are sure to hear some of your favourite “standards” such as “All the Things You Are”, “April in Paris”, “September Song” and more!

The concert will be held at Dalhousie University, Ondaatje Hall, Marion McCain Arts Bldg, 6135 University Avenue on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $20, $15 for students and seniors.
